Art for art's sake

March 8 - An artwork, Max Bill's 66 tonne sculpture 'Continuity', has been lifted into place by a Terex mobile crane - but not an ordinary crane. It was the 200th unit of the AC 500-2 delivered from the Terex Cranes facility in Zweibr

Working for the art-loving Deutsche Bank and Zöller Transport, crane operator M.S. Kranservice supplied itsTerex AC 500-2 to position the sculpture onto three concrete bases in a trapezoidal pool in Frankfurt am Main, Germany in a new location. First placed outside the bank in 1986, the stone had been reduced in size and relocated a number of times before this final move (pictured below).

Despite its bulk, the artwork demanded a high degree of care and skill in its handling. Due to its extensive travels, the sculpture was already showing very fine cracks.

Meanwhile, another Terex client - Gifhorn-based S & B Schwertrans GmbH visited the Terex manufacturing plant to personally take delivery of a new acquisition from Terex Cranes - a Terex Challenger 3160 all-terrain crane. Uwe Steinkamp, a manager from S & B Schwertrans, took possession of the crane from Terex (pictured below).
