Heavy transport provider Collett & Sons has purchased a Goldhofer FTV850, the second blade lifter trailer in its fleet.
The new blade lifter is made up of four core trailer elements: FTV850 lifting module, eight-axle split lines, six driven axle lines, and an Addrive 2.0 power pack unit.
The unit has an 850 tonne-m load capacity and allows blades to be elevated from 0 to 60 degrees while rotated through a full 360-degree pitching rotation, providing operators the flexibility to adapt to wind speed and direction and route conditions. The FTV850 lifting module can carry blades up to 100 m in length.
The split axle lines can be adjusted, offering four options between 3 m and 4 m wide. This enhances both stability and load distribution based on blade weight, length and centre of gravity. The drive axles offer increased traction and manoeuvrability on challenging routes.
Due for delivery in February 2026, the FTV850 will be deployed on the Sanquhar II wind farm project in Dumfries & Galloway and East Ayrshire in Scotland, which at 308 MW will become the fourth-largest onshore wind farm in the UK once operational.
“With the arrival of our second blade lifter, we’re able to transport larger turbine blades more efficiently and safely than ever before,” said Jack Collett, renewables director at the company. “Operating both trailers together provides the flexibility and capacity our clients need on complex renewable energy projects.”
HLPFI reported last week that Collett had completed a turbine delivery despite major route disruption, whilst earlier this year the company purchased Goldhofer Stepstar trailers.
