Liebherr has launched its first all-electric port crane - the LPS 420 E.

The mobile harbour crane's movements, such as luffing, hoisting, slewing and travelling, are performed using electric motors.

Powered by a 190 kW electric motor, Liebherr said that the crane is able to handle every type of cargo including containers, bulk, general cargo and heavy lifts up to 124 tonnes.

The LPS 420 E is optimised for terminals with a power supply ranging from 380 V to 460 V. As an additional benefit, Liebherr energy storage units can be used to reduce the peak-load in the crane's main power supply and to take advantage of regenerative energy within the system. The compact unit enables the accumulation and supply of 200 kW of power within 15 seconds.

A liquid-cooled multi-drive frequency converter system has also been installed in order for the crane to operate in critical conditions, such as harsh environments or in limited space, said Liebherr.
