Liebherr has supplied two BOS 4200 board offshore cranes and one mast type crane 78000 (MTC) for Petrodec’s jack-up vessel Obana, which are used to support complex offshore decommissioning operations in the North Sea.
Petrodec’s Obana is a self-elevating, heavy lift jack-up built from two existing platforms and a newly constructed mid-section. The Obana project began in 2021; in November 2024 the mid-section was integrated and the 2,000-tonne lift capacity MTC was installed. Each BOS crane has a safe working load of 60 tonnes and a boom length of 70 m.
“Working closely with Petrodec during the installation phase has strengthened our relationship and confirmed our shared focus on operational performance,” said Armin Seidel, area manager sales at Liebherr.
“The onsite assembly was technically demanding, but we managed all challenges in time,’ added Phillip-Andreas Kugler, technical advisor at Liebherr. “At times, work was carried out in parallel on all three cranes, running in both day and night shifts.”
