Vertom placed the order for the four 10,700 dwt geared tweendeckers at Chowgule Shipyards, with deliveries scheduled for 2027 and 2028. Each vessel will be equipped with two 80-tonne capacity electric cranes from MacGregor.

“We are pleased to partner with MacGregor on this important step forward in the electrification of our fleet,” said Rolf van Leeuwen, newbuilding superintendent at Vertom. “These electric cranes support our commitment to safer and more sustainable operations and reflect our ambition to lead by example in responsible shipping.”

The Vertom vessels will be powered by Tier III-compliant engines, incorporating an SCR system to meet IMO regulations, and feature a gross hold volume of 14,243 cu m offering optimal space for dry cargo, breakbulk and project cargo activities.

The order represents MacGregor’s first electric crane delivery for vessels being built in India, which it said marks a significant milestone in expanding sustainable solutions to emerging markets.

Earlier this year, MacGregor delivered an electric 250-tonne capacity heavy lift crane from Huanghai Shipbuilding to Nordic Hamburg Shipmanagement for installation on dship Carriers’ multipurpose vessel Amy.
