Mammoet USA has developed a widening adaptor that can expand SPMTs to provide a wider loading platform.
Covered under USA and Canadian patents, the adaptor enables variable spacing of split SPMT trailers, expanding their breadth from 10 ft (3 m) to 21 ft (6.4 m).
Mammoet said: “When extended with the widening adaptor, the SPMT offers the same amount of capacity with additional stability – increasing the width of the loading platform, without the need to add more SPMT trailer units.
“This makes transporting such loads significantly more cost-effective and safer due to the increased width.”
Mammoet launched the first SPMT, with Scheuerle, in 1984. Its fleet now comprises over 3,200 axle lines.
