TAG foundations head for Humber

August 4 - TAG Energy Solutions has undertaken the load out of four 650-tonne monopile foundations and four transition pieces, which are destined for the Humber Gateway offshore wind farm in the UK.

The 60 m long foundations are part of a project to deliver 16 monopiles and transition for the Humber Gateway development project. The remaining 12 foundations are scheduled to be transported from TAG's site on the River Tees before the end of August.

The first set of monopile foundations were loaded onto Osprey's heavy-duty barge Valiant using SPMTs, while the transition pieces were lifted by crane onto the the barge at TAG's wet dock facility.

Once the barge had towed the foundations down the River Tees, the cargo was transhipped onto the jack-up vessel MPI Discovery and transported to the wind farm.

The Humber Gateway offshore wind farm, which is situated 8 km off the Yorkshire coast, will consist of 73 turbines expected to generate up to 219 MW of electricity.

TAG said that it has made considerable investments in order to deliver projects of this nature.

The company claims that it has created the UK's only dedicated tubular production facility at its base in Teeside, which has the ability to roll and weld large diameter steel tubes that form the monopiles and transition pieces used in offshore wind farm construction.
