WCA Projects members busy

February 5 - Members of the WCA Projects network in Colombia, China, Peru and India have handled the transport of a number of out-of-gauge cargo shipments across the globe.

ABC Cargo Logistics - a WCA Projects member in Colombia - recently coordinated a shipment of pipelines from the Port of Laem Chabang in Thailand to Colombia's Buenaventura Port, from where the cargo was delivered to an oilfield.

The shipment weighed around 1,386 tonnes in total, with ABC Cargo handling the Customs clearance as well as the final delivery to the site.

Meanwhile WCA Projects member in China, Universal Logistics Company, arranged the door-to-door transportation of equipment for a jack-up rig being built in the Asian nation.

The shipment had a volume of 5,000 cu m, with the largest unit weighing 330 tonnes and measuring 15.8 m x 11.35 m x 14.5 m. Universal coordinated the movement from receipt at the shipper's site in Port Klang, barging to Singapore and shipment to Nantong, China on board a heavy lift vessel.

Over in the Americas, another WCA Projects member Altius completed the transport of two gas turbines, weighing 200 tonnes each, and two generators, weighing 256 tonnes each, from Houston, USA to Ilo Port in Peru.

Having been shipped to Peru on board BBC Chartering's heavy lift vessel BBC Oregon, the turbines were transported over 25 km by road to the job site using two side-by-side 14-axle line modular trailers; while the generators were hauled to the location using two side-by-side 16-axle line trailers.

Elsewhere, a joint effort from two WCA Projects members - Wangfoong Transportation and Shanghai Victory Shipping - saw a consignment of equipment delivered to Hong Kong's Lamma Island from Shanghai port.

The two companies explained that this was a particularly challenging job since there was no direct road access to Lamma Island. Therefore, the cargo was shipped from the city to the island, discharged onto the jetty and transported overland to the power station site.

Member of the WCA Projects network in India, Damani Shipping, also handled a shipment from China, with ten 34 m long wind turbine blade moulds delivered to China on board a breakbulk vessel.
