Following the hijacking of Blue Marlin, Royal Boskalis Westminster has confirmed that the heavy transport vessel is now en route to Las Palmas in Gran Canaria, Spain, for repairs.

As HLPFI reported here, the vessel was boarded by several armed pirates offshore Equatorial Guinea on May 5.

While on board Blue Marlin, the pirates fired several shots and caused substantial material damage to the bridge.

After mobilising an oceangoing tug to take the vessel to a safe location, Boskalis said Blue Marlin is now heading to Las Palmas. It expects repairs to last for approximately two weeks.

According to a spokesperson from Boskalis, upon completion of repairs, Blue Marlin will pick up cargoes in the Mediterranean.
