Update on Jumbo Kinetic

February 17 - A spokesman for Jumbo has confirmed reports first posted on the company's Facebook page - - that the cranes for its first K-Class ship, Jumbo Kinetic, were fitted at the end of January at a shipyard in China.

The spokesman said that this represents an important step in the entry of the ship into service, which is expected in the second quarter of this year.

HLPFI readers will recall that an order for Jumbo Kinetic was originally placed at Croatia's Brodosplit shipyard in summer 2011, with steel cutting and construction starting in March 2012.

2014 saw Brodosplit advise that having cancelled the original contract for the ship at the end of May, Jumbo renegotiated and signed a new sales contract for Jumbo Kinetic in July 2014.

It was then reported that the cranes would be fitted at the Viktor Lenac shipyard, rather than Huisman's yard in China, which was the original destination for this work, which would seem to be inaccurate in light of the news above.

Jumbo Kinetic has a combined lift capacity of 3,000 tonnes.
