Volga-Dnepr in wind energy delivery

Volga-Dnepr Airlines has delivered 80 tons (72.6 tonnes) of equipment from Cologne-Bonn, Germany to Australia to support the construction of a 32-turbine wind farm project.

On behalf of General Electric, Volga-Dnepr loaded a 36-ton (32.7-tonne) turbine hub and three generators on to one of its AN-124 aircraft.

The wind turbine hub measured 4 m in length; the generators weighed 12.6 tons (11.4 tonnes).

The cargoes were loaded using the aircraft’s own loading system and an external crane, before being transported to Adelaide. They were subsequently delivered to the project site near Hallett.
