Denmark’s Port Esbjerg has taken delivery of a 308-tonne lifting capacity LHM 800 mobile harbour crane from Liebherr.

Weighing nearly 800 tonnes and measuring 48 m tall, the crane arrived at the port from Rostock, Germany on the ST-class semi-submersible heavy lift vessel Rolldock Storm.

In Esbjerg, the crane will be used to handle wind turbines components along with other offshore structures.

Port Esbjerg’s ceo, Dennis Jul Pedersen, said: “I am very excited about this new crane, because it will increase our capacity considerably. We need to be able to handle more and more heavy cargo in the future, and therefore we need to upgrade our capacity.”

In addition to single lifts of over 300 tonnes, the new crane will allow also be used in tandem with the port’s other mobile harbour cranes to lift components weighing up to 448 tonnes.

Blue Water Shipping acted as agent for Rolldock Storm’s port call at the Danish gateway. “As stevedores for the vessel, we [were] also in charge of the discharge operation,” said Klaus Odby Jensen, manager port agency, Blue Water Esbjerg.
