Portugal-based Laso Transportes has moved a 637-tonne tunnel boring machine (TBM) for the Lisbon General Drainage Plan (PGDL), completing what it claims to be the largest transport operation ever carried out in the city of Lisbon.
Measuring 95.9 m x 7.85 m x 7.13 m, the transport configuration moved between Santa Apolónia and Beato. Due to its size, the move required detailed studies to find a suitable route that minimised disruption in the busy urban centre.
A team of around 30 professionals was called in for the project, including engineers, technicians, heavy and light vehicle drivers, as well as a reporting team dedicated to recording the moment.
A recent addition to the Laso equipment fleet – a Goldhofer Faktor 5 girder bridge designed to support large dimensions and weights – was mobilised for the job.
HLPFI reported last month that Laso had added two Spanish branches to its network.
