Jumbo Shipping has transported a 1,435-tonne shiploader from Vietnam to Canada on behalf of Tenova.

Measuring 135 m x 25 m x 43 m, the transport of the machine required almost two years of preparation. It was shipped on Jumbo Kinetic from Phu My port to Vancouver.

The shiploader was lifted using the ship’s 3,000-tonne lifting capacity cranes. Once the tandem lift was complete, the next stage of the loading involved temporarily suspending the unit above the deck so that the boom could be retracted to change the centre of gravity.

This enabled the vessel’s team to re-rig and then perform a single lift to shift the shiploader to its final stowage position, where it could be secured for onward transportation to Vancouver.

After a 20-day ocean voyage Jumbo Kinetic arrived at the Neptune terminal in Vancouver and discharge operations got underway.

The ship loader was manoeuvred onto the pivot point at the quayside and onto the semi-circle shaped rails above the water.
