South Africa-headquartered heavy transport and rigging specialist Vanguard has completed the turnkey installation and commissioning of a Yadon tandem press line for VSL Manufacturing in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
The project will support local Isuzu vehicle production, with Vanguard responsible for shipping project cargo components from China to the port of Port Elizabeth. The company’s scope of work included port handling services, specialised overland transportation to site, full mechanical installation, commissioning, and automation support in partnership with the OEM, Yadon.
With ongoing construction activities at the site, and only temporary supply available, Vanguard had to overcome several challenges to maintain the project schedule, deploying in-house heavy lift equipment to ensure key installation activities could progress.
Altogether, four presses and six robots – complete with sound enclosures – were shipped, transported, and installed. Vanguard also installed a 200-tonne crown using its lifting and handling systems.
It took just shy of 10 weeks from installation beginning to mechanical completion and commissioning being achieved.
“This project underscores the breadth of Vanguard’s integrated service offering,” said Marius Tembo, project engineer at Vanguard. “Completing the installation of a fully automated press line under constrained site conditions and within tight timeframes highlights the capability and commitment of our team.”
Last month, Vanguard put its wind blade shunt trailers to use for two simultaneous offloading operations.
