CakeBoxx Technologies will introduce the BreakBulkBoxx 45 ft shipping container at the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) Intermodal Expo in Long Beach, USA on September 18.

The latest model in the CakeBoxx BreakBulkBoxx line has been designed to save costs for breakbulk and project cargo shippers by providing a means to transport their loads on container ships rather than breakbulk and multipurpose vessels, says the company.

"The advantages are substantial - lower cost, reduced handling and faster cycle times," claimed CakeBoxx Technologies ceo, Daine Eisold. "In many cases, you can ship 100 tons (90.7 tonnes) of breakbulk freight in four 45 ft CakeBoxx containers for about one-half the cost and in half the time of breakbulk vessel transport."

According to CakeBoxx, the 'deck and lid' design enables loading from the top and sides, which it claims makes it easy to containerise large cargo.

The design also includes dual gooseneck tunnels and an end locking system for additional security and strength. Internally, the BreakBulkBoxx 45 ft container includes a fibreglass reinforced plastic (FRP) floor, and a perimeter tie down system designed to support a broad spectrum of hooks and chains.
