FESCO carries snow groomer to Sakhalin Island

January 15 - FESCO Logistics is handling the shipment of a BR 350 snow groomer from Granby, Quebec to Sakhalin Island, Russia.

The shipment is paving a new route to Russia, says FESCO Logistics, as the shipment is being routed via Korea's port of Busan. "The advantage to using the Port of Busan as a transhipment hub versus Vladivostok is simplified and expedited Customs procedures," said Ralf Bremsner, director of FESCO Logistics'. 

"Russian Customs is in the process of requiring cargo arriving in Russia to clear at the port of entry, which can be a challenge for importers located in remote regions such as Magadan and Sakhalin." 

The 8.6 tonne snow groomer was loaded onto a 53-foot stepdeck trailer in Granby, Quebec and trucked to Seattle, Washington where it was loaded onto a vessel bound for Busan, Korea with on-carriage to Korsakov, Russia (Sakhalin Island) via FESCO's FKSL service.

FESCO Logistics recently expanded on its monthly breakbulk service from Everett, Washington by including fortnightly departures from Seattle and Vancouver BC with transhipment via Busan to Russia. "From Savannah, Georgia and Los Angeles, we now offer a ro-ro service connecting in Yokohama to FESCO ro-ro vessels offering frequent service to Russian Far East ports," said Bremsner. "We have also introduced a monthly breakbulk service from Houston which connects in Busan to our FESCO Korea Sakhalin Line service."

"In addition to breakbulk, we offer a weekly oil and gas express service from Houston via Busan to Korsakov and Kholmsk, including 45-foot containers for pipe and other oil-well related material on a CFS/CY or CY/CY basis," said Bremsner.
