April 23 - Maersk Line teamed up with Emirates Team New Zealand to move its AC72 catamaran from Auckland to San Francisco to compete in the 2013 Americas Cup.

The 21.9 m long catamaran New Zealand was hoisted out of the water and placed onto the deck of the Maersk Jubail. Along with the yacht, more than 70 containers containing vital equipment for the race will be shipped to the American city - 31 of which are already on the water.

Commenting on the complexity of the shipment, Stuart Jennings, Maersk Line New Zealand's operations manager, explained: "Because of the dimensions of the yachts and masts we spent quite a bit of time in the pre-planning process prior to settling on the best and safest stowage plan.

"The AC72s are like thoroughbred horses - and like thoroughbred horses, they're expensive, sensitive and need careful treatment."
