February 18 - The jack-up vessel, Aeolus, which was constructed at the Sietas shipyard for Dutch marine engineering company, Van Oord, has left the shipyard.

The Aelous, which is now travelling along the river Elbe to Bremerhaven, is the first jack-up vessel for offshore wind farms designed and built in Germany, claims the shipyard.

Tobias Brinkmann, along with Van Oord's director Peter Bunschoten and legal counsel Ingrid Peters, negotiated and finalised the construction contract during the Sietas insolvency process for the shipyard's insolvency administrator, Berthold Brinkmann.

Sietas shipyard, which HLPFI recently reported as having found a buyer, built the ship without any public funding or loans.

The vessel, which is 140 m long, 38 m wide and features a 900-tonne capacity offshore crane with a jib reach of 30 m, is expected to go off on its first charter in July, 2014 where it will be used in the construction of the Eneco Luchterduinen wind farm off the coast of the Netherlands.
