August 28 - ALE has transported 14 heavy concentrating solar power (CSP) components from the Port of Luderitz, Namibia, to the Ilanga Solar One plant in the Northern Cape, South Africa.

The components, which weighed between 37 tonnes and 291 tonnes, were transported 845 km from the port through Namibia and South Africa to the solar power plant using specialised transport combinations.

ALE utilised an 18 axle drawbar trailer, an 18 axle gooseneck trailer, two 20 axle widening drawbars and a nine axle gooseneck to transport the cargoes.

Once on site, ALE used a 400-tonne capacity mobile crane and a 750-tonne assist crane to lift the components. A fixed gantry system, comprising of four strand jacks, was utilised to perform the installation manoeuvres.
