December 20 - Just when you thought that there might not be room for another project forwarder network, a further one is launched.
The Project Logistics Alliance (PLA) was founded this month by industry experts around the globe to address the special demands of project freight forwarding.
At present, the PLA has not revealed which project freight forwarding companies have already joined the fledgling network, but understands that Bremen-based Alexander Global Logistics is one of the founders.
The PLA's website states that by creating a platform on which solely industry experts can communicate and collaborate, it aims to be the pinnacle towards which the industry aspires.
In what might be construed as criticism of some of the other long-standing and respected networks, the PLA says that other attempts to form networks like this in the past have encountered issues with knowledge and expertise being diluted due to a lack of entry requirements.
It says that many networks are pay-to-join with uncapped numbers on membership which may result in exceedingly high memberships of unproven quality.
It adds that the PLA will aim to mitigate this by enforcing strict entry-barriers and qualification requirements to join.
HLPFI understands that PLA membership is limited to two members per country; although to ensure sufficient coverage, larger markets may need more representation.
