AV Dawson attracts offshore business

April 16 - UK based specialist logistics firm AV Dawson has seen significant growth in its marine and offshore sectors.

The Middleborough headquartered offshore supply specialist saw the number of vessels handled during 2012 almost double to 150 compared to 2011. That record its set to be broken in 2013 - in the first quarter of this year it has already handled 53 vessels.

A GBP10 million (USD15.3 million) expansion programme is underway at the AV Dawson facility that includes the creation of a new deep water quay and the opening of an intermodal rail terminal at its 24.3 ha (60 acre) site in the Middleborough Riverside Park.

The GBP3.2 million (USD4.9 million) quay is set for completion in summer 2013. It will be 8.5 m deep and measure 150 m in length allowing for vessels of up to 11,000 dwt to take advantage of AV Dawson's logistics services.

The new quay is intended to attract larger offshore supply vessels to the facility. Clients currently taking advantage of the North Sea supply base currently include subsea energy firm Modus Seabed Intervention and cable laying concern, Global Marine Systems Energy.

Offshore-related work now accounts for more than half of AV Dawson's turnover and according to the company's md Gary Dawson, while it is increasing support to offshore clients the investments are also of benefit to its traditional clients.

"There are great opportunities in offshore wind but traditional oil and gas still has a very big future and our North Sea supply base continues to support that market as well as our traditional, dry bulk clients," Dawson explained.
