Royal Boskalis Westminster has revealed plans for its Bokalift 2 crane vessel.

Similar to the Bokalift 1, Boskalis will convert an existing hull to create the new ship, which will boast 7,500 sq m of deck space and have a 4,000-ton (3,628.7-tonne) capacity revolving crane capable of lifting structures more than 100 m high. 

Boskalis said Bokalift 2 well suited to the installation offshore wind turbine foundations, as well as oil and gas structures, in addition to serving the decommissioning and salvage market.

The first project for Bokalift 2 will be the transport and installation of components for the Changfang and Xidao (CFXD) offshore wind farm, located approximately 15 km off the coast of Changhua County, Taiwan.

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) awarded Boskalis and its Taiwanese partner Hwa Chi Construction the contract to transport and install 62 three-legged jacket foundations and the accompanying 186 pin piles. The companies will execute the works through the joint venture Boskalis HwaChi Offshore Wind Taiwan (BoWei). 

In line with the local content requirement for offshore wind farm developments in Taiwan, BoWei will subcontract work to local suppliers including the sourcing of support vessels, local engineering and logistics services.
