Breakbulk regional focus highlights 3PL opportunities

November 26 - A regional market focus on Australia during the Breakbulk Asia Transportation Conference & Exhibition from 26-27 January in Singapore next year will highlight the tremendous freight forwarding opportunities fuelled by AUD112.5 billion (USD10

The session moderator Kevin Stephens, based in Brisbane, Australia, is the general manager of the Project Professionals Group one of the largest heavy lift and project forwarder networks of its kind.

Mr Stephens said the USD43 billion Gorgon liquefied natural gas project on Barrow Island off Western Australian alone offered project cargo specialists enormous potential as the single largest project undertaken in Australia's resource sector.

"The sheer size and scope of the Barrow Island project will generate some lively discussion regarding the challenges of being involved in this development and meeting the project's logistics requirements," Mr Stephens said.

"I would encourage those involved in project cargo not to miss this session during Breakbulk Asia as the international and domestic Australian Integrated Logistics Services contract for the Barrow Island LNG Plant is estimated at AUD590 million (USD541 million) over four years and is expected to ship materials in excess of two million freight tonnes."

The Gorgon Gas Project is one of 12 proposed LNG projects in Australia and Papua New Guinea.

Mr Stephens said other major projects underway in Australia included the nation's longest road tunnel project in Brisbane, and plans for a AUD4 billion (USD3.67 billion) port and rail development at Oakajee in Western Australia.

He said AUD5.3 billion (USD4.86 billion) was committed for power supply projects, particularly renewable energy.

Mr Stephens said the Asia Pacific logistics market would be discussed as a case study during The Certificate of Achievement in Project Cargo Management course to be held in Singapore from 28-29 January, 2010, following Breakbulk Asia.
