January 17 - JSC Sea Port of St Petersburg (SPSPb) handled 7.8 million tonnes of cargo in 2013 - 11 percent less than in 2012.
This decrease was caused by the reduction of volumes of ferrous metal handled, which is due to the downfall of demand for this type of product in world markets, said SPSPb.
The volumes of ferrous metals handled decreased by 28 percent in 2013 to 1.9 million tonnes, while volumes of non-ferrous metals was down 9 percent at 1.5 million tonnes.
Handling volumes of loose and bulk cargoes was up by 15 percent, however, at 2.1 million tonnes - growth which was caused by an increase in volumes of mineral fertilisers handled.
