COSCO Dalian to build BigRoll vessels

September 13 - BigRoll Shipping - the new heavy lift shipping line formed in May 2013 through the combination of BigLift Shipping and RollDock Shipping - has contracted COSCO Dalian Shipyard to build two MC Class module carriers for the transportation of

The sister vessels are scheduled for delivery in May and August 2015 respectively. Each will have an overall length of 173 m with a beam of 42 m giving an overall deck area of 42 m by 125 m. The depth of each vessel is 12 m and the maximum deadweight will be 21,000 tonnes.

According to BigRoll Shipping the MC Class is designed with a focus on reliability of operations, short loading and discharging times, high service speed and low accelerations. Each vessel will have Finnish Swedish 1A ice class notation and will be DP2 enabled, which makes them suited for operations in remote areas such as the Arctic, as well as for direct offshore supply missions.

"The market's response to BigRoll Shipping and BigRoll's MC Class design has been very positive and we are pleased we can now announce that the vessels will be available mid 2015," says Arne Hubregtse of BigRoll Shipping. The contract has an option for two additional vessels.
