Crane sales grow Stateside

March 20 - A number of US based equipment rental, retail and service providers have added new crane, truck and trailer capacity to their ranks, including Bay Crane, Crane Service Inc. and Bigge Crane & Rigging.

New York headquartered Bay Crane has added 12 new all terrain cranes manufactured by Grove and Liebherr to its rental fleet, including a third 600-tonne capacity Liebherr LTM 1500.8.

The company also plans to add 14 additional Tadano rough terrain cranes to its roster over the first half of 2014, including the new 160-tonne GR 1600 XL - the largest rough terrain crane available in the US, says Bay Crane.

Bay Crane has also invested heavily in its heavy transportation fleet with the addition of eight new heavy haul tractors from Kenworth, 32 additional axle lines of Goldhofer self-propelled electronic steered modular transporters, and 80 flatbed and lowbed trailers.

Bay Crane said the new purchases would bolster its current inventory and support a new branch located in Carlstadt, New Jersey. Keith Arden, operations manager of the new facility, stated: "Bay Crane has proven its ability to grow organically in the Northeast over the last six years and with the addition of the new Carlstadt facility clearly demonstrates our strong commitment to growth and providing the highest quality service to our heavy lift, rental, and transportation customers."

Crane Service Inc. - a New Mexico headquartered specialist in rigging, heavy hoisting, and heavy hauling - has placed orders with Link-Belt for two all terrain cranes - a 210-tonne capacity ATC-3210 and a fifth ATC-3275 with a lifting capacity of 275-tonne.

Furthermore, a 450-tonne capacity Grove GMK6400 will join the Crane Service Inc. fleet and will available through its Texas divisions.

Bigge Crane & Rigging, the California based crane services and rental provider, has added 25 new Kobelco crawler cranes to its range in the past three months. During CONEXPO 2014 Bigge Crane & Rigging president, Weston Settlemier, shook hands on a new 275-tonne capacity CK2750 crawler.

ALL Erection & Crane Rental Corp has purchased 10 of the new 330-tonne capacity Manitowoc MLC300 crawler cranes, which made its debut at CONEXPO 2014.

The new cranes come equipped with Manitowoc's innovative Variable Position Counterweight (VPC) system, which uses a patented rail system to automatically centre the crane's centre of gravity. ALL Erection explained that because the counterweight is movable, VPC helps to reduce the crane's operating footprint, which in turn reduce ground-bearing pressure and the amount of ground preparation required for crane operations.

"We can reduce the number of required mats by half. That's thousands of dollars in savings per month, and that's saying nothing of the reduced counterweight loads and the savings realised by reducing the required job site prep area," said Rick Mikut, crawler crane division manager, ALL Erection.
