Daher in transformational rail move

July 7 - Daher in Germany has coordinated the delivery of a 240-tonne transformer from Halle, Leipzig to Grünstädtel by rail, using a historic locomotive and steam engine from the Deutsche Reichsbahn.

The transformer was the final replacement unit destined for the Markersbach power plant in Germany's Ore Mountains.

In order to celebrate the final delivery, Daher chose to use the legendary locomotive and steam engine to move the transformer - which measured 10.5 m x 3.7 m x 4.65 m - to its destination by rail using a 20-axle Schnabel railcar.

The oversize unit was moved from Halle to Chemnitz at night, but from Chemnitz to Grünstädtel during the day, since the route is less occupied by passenger trains, explained Daher.

The overland transport from Grünstädtel to the power plant site in the mountains was executed by another transport company, said Daher.
