June 14 - Dimerco has transported pipe spools from South Korea to the Middle East for the Water Security Mega Reservoirs Project in Qatar.

Dimerco subcontracted a packing company to box pipe spools of differing sizes into 159 wooden cases, with a total weight of 760,000 kg (760 tonnes) and a size of 4,300 cu m.

The containers were filled to maximum capacity by layering between six and seven pipe spools in each packing case.

The cargo was then secured in the containers by a specialist lashing company and delivered to the container yard. Dimerco split the cargo between two shipping lines, using 40 ft super rack containers.

According to Eric Roh, ocean freight director of Dimerco Express (Korea), the company opted for a container carrier rather than bulk handling vessel, "as the former has a more regular schedule and guarantees to deliver the consignment on time."

Roh added: "We were also able to make addition savings by selecting a 40 ft super rack over a 40 ft flatrack."

According to Dimerco, it was able to achieve a cost saving on ocean freight of approximately 9 percent.
