Washington’s port of Everett has teamed up with Jacobs and IGO Solutions to trial a new analytics system that tracks and improves the performance of its cargo-handling fleet. The pilot, known as Data Analytics for Port Equipment (DAPE), uses real-time data to cut idle time, boost efficiency, and lay the groundwork for broader digitalisation across port operations.
Developed by Jacobs with IGO Solutions, the platform collects information from emissions monitors and telematics devices, feeding it into a cloud-based dashboard. From there, the port can track equipment health, movement, and emissions in real time. The system is designed to work across all port and terminal types, from general cargo and multipurpose to container terminals.
“At the port of Everett, we’re always looking for innovative ways to utilise technology to gain efficiencies, plan for the future, and enhance sustainability,” said executive director and ceo Lisa Lefeber. “This smart technology pilot is an exciting step forward, giving the port industry a new tool for gaining real-time insights into equipment performance and can be used to support short, medium, and long-range decision making.”
“Through this collaboration, Jacobs and its partners developed a real time port equipment data analytics platform, seamlessly integrated with bespoke operational KPIs to monitor and manage cargo handling equipment fleets,” said Jacobs vice president and director ports and maritime - US West Aldo Ferrufino. “This marks a significant step forward in enhancing visibility, efficiency and resiliency in port operations across the industry.”
