November 9 - Oy Nordic Chartering has been merged into Dutch shipping company, Flinter in a move which the latter said would strengthen its position in European markets.

Rotterdam-based Flinter, which has 50 small cargo ships, including some feeder vessels, will gain control of Oy Nordic Chartering's five small vessels of between 3,000 dwt and 4,300 dwt, which operate between the Baltic Sea and western Europe.

Cor Romijn, Flinter's director Shipping says that after a few years of close cooperation the decision was made to merge activities. The purpose of the integrated operations is to strengthen the competitiveness by optimising the cargo intake of the fleet. "A common ownership enables smooth and flexible exchange of vessels with short notice so the overall capacity will be utilised in the most optimal way."
