Griebel & Mahncke invests in crane

May 3 - Hamburg-based Griebel & Mahncke Schwertransporte has replaced an existing crane with a Liebherr LTM 1095-5.1 model, which has a lift capacity of 95 tonnes and is now the company's largest mobile crane.

The company, which specialises in heavy transport services as well as transport, relocation and assembly work for systems and machines says the new crane will give it a significant increase in lift capacity.

Meanwhile Liebherr's offshore crane division has installed a board offshore crane, type BOS 35000 on Boskalis' heavy lift barge Giant 7, to be used wind farms installations in the Baltic Sea.

HLPFI readers will recall that Royal Boskalis Papendrecht took delivery of Giant 7 in October 2015 and the vessel arrived at Liebherr's production site in Rostock, northern Germany in January with installation of the purpose built crane starting immediately.

Liebherr says that the biggest challenge when assembling heavy lift giants like the BOS 35000 is the handling of oversized parts. The lattice boom is 78 m long and weighs more than 250 tonnes.

Assembly and testing of the crane took six weeks, before the vessel departed for operational use in the Baltic Sea.

The crane can be seen below after installation was complete and during operation.
