Jumbo Maritime has joined Norway-based service performance and benchmarking analyst Esgian as its pilot client for the recently launched multipurpose vessel (MPP) platform.

Jumbo to uitlise Esgian platform

Esgian, which provides performance and emissions benchmarks for the ro-ro shipping sector together with its strategic partner Hesnes Shipping, developed the tool for the multipurpose shipping sector earlier this year. It partnered with shipbroker and market analyst Toepfer Transport for the tool, assisting in mapping 1,400-plus ships to more than 60 shipping lines. This, Esgian said, should enable users to gain insight at both a company and vessel level.

The platform combines decarbonisation/sustainability with commercial insights into trade routes, port congestion, port efficiency, commercial footprint, vessel activity in terms of share of port time/standby/sailing and average speed.

Jumbo added: “The commercial analytics product provides valuable insights into operators’ commercial activities and performance levels, which we believe will be applicable in various areas to support our strategic decision-making and understanding of market dynamics.”

Jumbo is also the first client to take full advantage of Esgian’s offshore wind suite – a tool that enables clients to understand the dynamics of the complex offshore wind industry.

Additionally, the carrier will utilise Esgian’s upcoming emission analytics for the multipurpose shipping segment. This tool is set to be released in October 2023 and will enable benchmarking, analysis, and transparency across the MPP fleet. “Here we are already in close dialogue with Smart Freight Centre with the aim to have this accredited within this year – following in the footsteps of our ro-ro product,” said Esgian.
