February 2 - In 2010, the ports of Lower Saxony recorded 46.52 million tonnes of cargo, 11 percent down on 2009 figure of 52.42 million tonnes.

The ports of BrakeCuxhavenEmden and Papenburg achieved double-digit growth rates whilst Stade managed an increase of 8 percent.

With a turnover totaling 46.52 million tons in all of Lower Saxony seaports around 11 0.000000ewer goods were moved on the previous year. 2009 a total of 52.42 million tons were handled.

Andreas Bullwinkel, director of port marketing company Seaports of Niedersachsen GmbH, highlighted the sometimes very good individual results of the Lower Saxony seaport locations. "We see in most locations, a very welcome development and head into 2011 with a stable business situation.

He added that some EUR250 million (USD345 million) has been invested in infrastructure in the period from 2009 to 2011 and one intention is to expand the offshore base port in Cuxhaven to reinforce its position as Europe's largest offshore hub. Port and berth fees in Lower Saxony's seaports Brake, Cuxhaven, Emden, Stade and Wilhelmshavenwill remain at the April 2009 level.
