Ballast water treatment system manufacturer Optimarin sold more than 100 systems during 2018 and reported record revenues for the year.

Tore Andersen, ceo of Optimarin

The company’s ceo, Tore Andersen, said that 2019 is shaping up to be another record year; the orderbook is five times the size it was at this point in 2018 and revenue is expected to double year-on-year. “This is an overnight success that’s been 25 years in the making,” he added.

Optimarin said that it has now sold close to 700 of its ballast water treatment systems. Morethan 500 are installed and operational, of which approximately 250 are retrofits.

Andersen added: “The ratification of the IMO Ballast Water Management Convention, allied to the US Coast Guard’s (USCG) stringent requirements, fired a starting gun. Thanks to our established expertise, technology and the fact we were the first to achieve USCG compliance, we are in an excellent position to meet that demand.”
