PCN welcomes Hawk Customs & Freight

January 25 - Hawk Customs & Freight (NZ) Ltd has joined the Project Cargo Network (PCN) as a member in New Zealand.

Established in 1993, the company is a medium sized, wholly owned and operated company, and last year, was proud to have been chosen to provide the logistics for a giant rugby ball, which was moved between London, Paris, Tokyo, Sydney and finally Auckland for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Managing director, Steve Wallace says: "The structure was in CKD form and is packed into 7 x 40? FCL containers. Our brief was to get it around the world and facilitate the smooth clearance and delivery through each border, and to arrange transportation to the various sites. This was an unusual project in that we had to get the containers delivered in sequence for the build / teardown with limited site access in each country, some countries do not have sideloaders (Japan) therefore we had to arrange for cranes to be in place to offload and load emptys and visa versa. There were numerous difficulties we had to overcome in each country with time line limitations and deadlines."

Tourism NZ was delighted with each move and as a result, Hawk Customs & Freight is hopeful of being top of their list for future project initiatives. The NZ government is looking closely at mining mineral resources over the coming years, so Hawk is expecting there to be some large equipment imports directly related to the mining sector.
