Port of Blyth.

At its recent Annual Public Meeting, the port of Blyth said that port turnover for 2024 was the highest on record at GBP22.23 million (USD29.66 million). For the overall group, turnover grew to second highest on record at GBP31.48 million (USD42 million), with an operating profit and profit before tax of GBP2.65 million (USD3.54 million) and GBP2.23 million (USD2.98 million), respectively.

The port’s operating business remained the largest element of the group’s activities and continued to contribute roughly two thirds of revenue generated. This service was supported by its logistics, forwarding and export packing subsidiary, Transped, and its Port Training Services arm.

2024 included numerous highlights, said the port, including supporting the ongoing mobilisation of the Sofia offshore wind park, as well as the construction of one of the world’s largest wind turbine monopile drills at its South Harbour Terminal. Other offshore energy activities ranged from the handling of specialist subsea equipment to heavy project lifts.

Transped continued to provide forwarding for the other logistics services to an expanding customer base throughout 2024. Although profitability was down, investment in specialist heavy duty containers strengthened services whilst maintaining the twice-weekly container service between the Netherlands and Blyth, it said.
