May 19 - The Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA) has announced the three winners of its Hauling Job of the Year.

Berard Transport won the Moving award for the transport of a 1,000-tonne bulk material crane from New Iberia to Port of Lake Charles, both in Louisiana, using a deck barge.

The Berard team loaded the crane onto the deck barge using steel plating in order to spread the load across the substandard load out terrain. Flanked by three tugboats, the unusual load then proceeded slowly to its final destination 97 km away, sometimes passing just below high-voltage power lines.

Northwest Crane Service was presented with the award in the Hauling Over 160,000 Pounds (72.57 tonnes) category. It coordinated the transport of a 540,000-pound (244.9-tonne) demethaniser to a natural gas processing plant in Fort Lupton, Colorado.

The size of the load required four 600-horsepower trucks to move it - two to push it and two to pull it. The gross weight of the configuration tipped the scales at over 1.19 million pounds (539.8 tonnes). The total length from truck to truck was approximately 427 ft (130.2 m) with a width and height both hitting 18 ft (5.48 m).

In the Hauling Under 160,000 Pounds (72.6 tonne) category Precision Heavy Haul Inc. scooped the gong for the transport of a USD50 million radio telescope from Socorro, New Mexico to the Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona. Among the components transported was the main reflector, which at 40 ft (12.2 m) in diameter was the widest load ever to cross the two states.

SC&RA also presented awards for the Rigging Job of the Year across three categories.

In the Over USD750,000 category, Fagioli won the award for its work recovering the stricken cruise ship Costa Concordia off the coast of Isola Del Giglio, Italy, in January 2012. It was the first time that such an operation had been performed on a vessel with such huge overall dimensions - 300 m long and 114,000 gross tonnes - says SC&RA.

Omega Morgan scooped the prize in the USD150,000-USD750,000 category, when it completed the relocation of the 87-year old, 1,100 ft (338.3 m) Sellawood Bridge, which spans the Willamette River.

Barnhart was recognised in the Under USD150,000 category, when it removed 10 platforms on a control tower at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas.
