December 11 - German heavy lift specialist Schmidbauer has been involved in the construction of the Butendiek Offshore Wind Park (OWP), located 34 miles offshore the German island of Sylt in the North Sea.

Ballast Nedam Offshore secured the EPC contract for the installation of the wind turbine foundations; the heavy lifting and site transport at the base port of Esbjerg was subsequently sub-contracted to Schmidbauer.

Schmidbauer provided a Liebherr LR 11350 crawler crane with a lifting capacity of 1,350 tonnes, 42 axle lines of self propelled modular transporters (SPMT), and a 16-man crew to operate 24/7. The 880-tonne monopile foundations were discharged from a ship using the crawler crane; the foundations were moved around the port of Esbjerg using SPMTs.

After installing special plugs, the monopile foundations were launched into the water and transported to Ballast Nedam's heavy lift vessel Svanen.
