January 23 - DB Schenker has handled the transportation of two heavy streetcars from Shijiazhuang, China to Samsun, Turkey in a time of just two weeks, which it says is a record.
The cars, which were produced by CNR Tangshan Railway Vehicle Co. Ltd, each had a length of 19.8 m and weight of 77 tonnes.
The streetcars were transported by road from the manufacturer's plant to Shijiazhuang airport, where they were loaded onto an Antonov AN 225, booked by DB Schenker's subsidiary, Karpeles Flight Services GmbH - the first time such an aircraft had been used to move streetcars.
In cooperation with Antonov airlines, the company organised the loading and securing of the cargo, before the streetcars were delivered safely and within the tight time frame to Turkey.
