Swan takes on mega module

December 8 - A 3,200-tonne accommodation module has been loaded on board Dockwise's heavy transport vessel Swan at Mammoet's heavy lift terminal in Schiedam, the Netherlands.

The module, which was built by CKT Projects in Rotterdam for the Norwegian Aasta Hansteen gas and condensate production platform on behalf on Statoil, measured 60 m long by 25 m wide and 38 m high.

CKT Projects worked on the design and procurement of all necessary parts, and the construction of the module, which has living space for 108 people, for around two years.

Having been loaded at the Mammoet terminal, the mega module will now be delivered to Hyundai Heavy Industries' shipyard in South Korea, where the 47,000-tonne cylindrical hull, measuring 195 m long with a diameter of 50 m, and 22,000-tonne topside section are being built for the Statoil platform.

At the South Korean yard the accommodation module will be attached to the topside section, which includes a large installation for the production of gas and condensate from the Aasta Hansteen field.

In 2016, the two large platform sections will be transported by Dockwise to a Norwegian fjord.

The hull will be transported to Norway horizontally on board Dockwise Vanguard, and on arrival will be offloaded, righted and ballasted, so that only the top section remains above water.

Dockwise's heavy transport vessel White Marlin will transport the topside section to Norway. A float-over operation will then be carried out in the fjord to position the topside on the hull. Dockwise will use two of its S-class heavy transport ships as a kind of mega catamaran (dual barge float-over), which will take the topside over from the White Marlin and install it on the hull.
