Transition pieces loaded at Cuxport

March 20 - Cuxhaven e.V (HWG) - a group of companies working together to develop the Cuxport gateway, Germany - has handled heavy wind farm components destined for the Meerwind Sud/Ost wind farm.

Six transition pieces were loaded onboard the Seaway Heavy Lifting offshore installation vessel Oleg Strashnov and transported to the Meerwind Sud/Ost wind farm, northwest of Helgoland.

Wind farm component manufacturer and HWG member, Ambau, delivered the pieces via a newly widened road from its production facility to the Cuxport terminal.

Thereafter, Oleg Strashnov lifted the transition pieces onto its deck using its onboard cranes. The vessel is equipped with one 5,000 tonne crane, and two further cranes with lifting capacities of 800 tonnes and 200 tonnes respectively. The vessel has a deck cargo area spanning 3,700 sq m.

From Cuxhaven, the cargo was shipped to the offshore construction site. The six transition pieces were lifted onto pre-installed monopiles.

"We are proud to be able to implement this ambitious project in Cuxhaven. At our site, we have the necessary infrastructure as well as companies in order to handle such heavy components," commented Dr. Andres Schmidt, chairman of the economic community harbor/port industry, HWG.
