TsAGI unveils new freighter concept

August 4 - Russia's Central Aero-hydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) unveiled a concept for a heavy transport aircraft at the MAKS-2017 airshow in Moscow.

The aircraft is designed to carry 150 tons (136 tonnes) of cargo for distances up to 7,000 km, with a cruising speed of 850 km/h. The maximum commercial load of 180 tonnes will have a flight range of 4,900 km.

TsAGI says the aircraft will be able to compete with the AN-124 and the Boeing 747 freighters.

To date, the technical concept of the prospective heavy transport aircraft has been developed. Its main geometric and mass parameters have been determined for two variants of the aircraft with different floor widths of the cargo cabin.

TsAGI has also carried out preliminary calculations of flight, take-off and landing characteristics.
