The UK’s National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) has released updated guidance on the policing of abnormal loads, with the Heavy Transport Association (HTA) planning to host an online meeting in the coming weeks to discuss the revised directives.
The UK’s HTA has played a leading collaborative role in its development with the NPCC. Marcus Gough, chairman of HTA, said: “This guidance is possibly the most vital document produced in over 15 years for our community. We are aware of many forces and individual officers are equally eager to receive the guidance to collaborate much needed consistency and lawful application of the relevant legislation.”
Richard Smith, managing director of the Road Haulage Association (RHA), added: “This is a key piece of work – heavily informed by industry on key issues firms are facing with inconsistent police service on supporting abnormal load movements.”
The HTA said it will host an open, online meeting in anticipation of questions/interpretations from all corners of the industry. It is expected to take place around a week after the release of the guidelines and a limited number of non-members will be allowed to join on a first-come first-served basis. To attend as a non-member, an individual’s business must be eligible for operator membership, with a maximum of one attendee per company.
Both the meeting date as well as a call for questions and applications to attend from non-members will be published on HTA’s website and social media channels once the NPCC guidance has been released.
