Volga-Dnepr in AN-124 wing shipment

June 20 - Volga-Dnepr Airlines has transported aircraft wings for the new Boeing 787 'Dreamliner' from Japan to Everett, USA, on board one of its AN-124-100 freighters.

The flight from Nagoya carried two 'wing boxes' each measuring 28 m long, manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (Japan).

An international team from Volga-Dnepr Airlines in Russia and the UK, the Boeing Corporation in the USA, and Germany's Broetje Automation cooperated to complete the safe and timely delivery of the shipment. Together a unique loading system was designed using three-dimensional modeling software to maximize the capabilities of the AN-124-100's cargo hold.

The logistics process was coordinated by Volga-Dnepr's recently established engineering and logistics centre (EIC), carrying out detailed preliminary work and ensuring all contractual obligations were met.

Alexey Isaikin, president and ceo of Volga-Dnepr Group, commented: "The carriage of wings for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a good example of international cooperation in the aerospace industry and ensured the success of this unique operation. Our strategic pan is aimed at being part of similar long-term, comprehensive programmes that require special expertise and a non-standard air logistics solution."
