Wallenius Wilhelmsen Ocean (WW Ocean) has introduced monthly calls to Arica port in Chile on its North America to South America service.

Located close to the Bolivian border, Arica port reduces the inland distance to the key markets of La Paz, El Alto and Cochabamba, said Wallenius Wilhelmsen.

Ana Paula Quaresma, vice president sales Wallenius Wilhelmsen South America, explained: “Arica port’s privileged position close to the Peruvian mining sector offers another important option to the South America market, opening up an alternative route for customers shipping products for this sector.”

In addition, the implementation of Short Tension Technology at the port means it is less affected by heavy swells, according to Wallenius Wilhelmsen, which is one of the biggest challenges preventing its vessels from berthing in some Chilean ports.

Moreover, the port’s onsite Bolivian Customs office helps to speed up inland distribution along the border between Chile and Bolivia.
