DYT floats Victoria to Florida

December 30 - DYT Yacht Transport shipped a replica of Ferdinand Magellan's galleon NAO Victoria - the first ship to successfully circumnavigate the world - from Palma de Mallorca in Spain to Port Everglades in Florida, USA.

DYT Yacht Transport mobilised its semi-submersible vessel, Super Servant 4, to transport the famous vessel. Super Servant 4 was able to submerge its deck to a draft that allowed the NAO Victoria to sail on and off safely.

The 25.9 m long carrack NAO Victoria set sail from Florida to St Augustine, before starting an exhibition tour that will take her along the coast of Florida and up the US East Coast.

"Although she can sail perfectly on her own keel, she would take nearly two months to get from Spain to Florida, so we decided to ship her to reduce the voyage time," said Eduardo Almagro Blanco, general manager for Fundacion NAO Victoria, the Spanish not-for-profit foundation that manages the vessel.

HLPFI reported in November that Boskalis sold DYT Yacht Transport - including two semi-submersible yacht transport vessels - to Sevenstar Yacht Transport for USD40 million (http://tinyurl.com/olj96mf).
