Effective July 1, 2018, the Switzerland-based Fracht group has acquired the Belgium-based forwarding company Polytra.

Fracht said that with Polytra’s offices in Belgium, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Tanzania, Zambia and South Africa, the acquisition will enhance its strategy to further develop across the African continent, where it recently opened offices in Burundi and Rwanda.

With this acquisition, Fracht will have a worldwide network of around 100 offices and employ 1,200 staff all over the world, although Polytra will remain an independent company within the Fracht network.

Fracht adds that the acquisition will strengthen its position in the port of Antwerp and enhance its project forwarding activities.

Polytra chairman and managing director, Baron Maurice Velge, will remain with the company until the end of 2018; although Amaury Luyckx the group's business development director and director head of Africa will be responsible for the company's general management with immediate effect.
