UK-based heavy transport specialist Collett & Sons has utilised its recently added 150-tonne capacity girder frame to transport a transformer to the Ironbridge substation in the UK.
Working alongside Hyosung Heavy Industries UK, the girder frame was put to work immediately to transport a 139-tonne transformer from Ellesmere Port to Ironbridge substation.
This latest addition brings Collett’s fleet of girder frames up to three vehicles, including 250-tonne and 550-tonne capacity units. Collett added that the 150-tonne capacity girder frame is a versatile option for its customers, as when paired with its EuroCombi modular axles it provides a lightweight lifting solution.
Meanwhile, Collett has also been delivering components for global power distribution firm Anord Mardix. It recently transported six of 32 modular power pods from Blackburn to the Red Kite data centre in Slough, with each pod measuring 17.2 m x 4.2 m x 4.03 and weighing 52.2 tonnes apiece.
The items were loaded on 5 and 6-axle step-frame trailers ready for the 271 mile (436.1 km) journey, with Collett’s in-house pilot vehicle fleet escorting along the way. Three more pods are scheduled for delivery to the data centre next month.
