The company introduced the SGC-170 in July 2025. The giant crane, which is fully electric, has a 170,000 tonne-metre load moment and a 3,200-tonne lifting capacity, making it one of the most powerful land-based cranes in the world.

Big Matthias has been named after Matthias Sarens, research and development manager at Sarens. The company said his vision and innovation have been pivotal not only to the SGC-170, but to the company’s whole family of giant cranes.

The main boom with jib can lift a massive 1,300 tonnes at over 200 m height. The crane’s modular configuration can be tailored to client requirements.

HLPFI reported earlier this month that Sarens helped to rebuild the mainstage at Tomorrowland in Belgium after a devastating fire at the festival.
